To cycling now and the tour of Poyang Lake. The second stage of the competition here in China circled Jiujiang Wuning, and is the longest leg of the tour with eight circuits of Lu shan Xi hai totalling 136 kilometers.
And the winner of the first stage, Australia's Sam Volkers was hoping to retain the leader's blue jersey.
Unlike the bumpy conditions of the previous day, this stage would be flat and smooth racing, with no climbs and three sprints.
Large groups would quickly form because of the flatness of the route, but the 31 degree heat provided a different challenge for the racers. And with a strong side wind coming from the lake, most teams decide to use a single line formation, but that doesn't stop a few brave cyclists from sprinting ahead.
And in the final mad dash, Volkers' Australian teammate Alex Frame finishes first in 3 hours and 56 seconds to claim the stage. But Volkers with an overall time of 5 hours, 19 minutes and 20 seconds would hang on to the leader's blue jersey while Zhou Keqiang is the top Chinese rider.
