On the eve of the summit, China and the US ratified the Paris Agreement on addressing climate change. French President Francois Hollande hailed the ratification as an "important step" by the two biggest carbon emitters in the world. He said the move opened the way for the agreement's enforcement by the end of this year.
He said, "The big achievement we made at this G20 summit is all members have expressed their will to achieve a long-term economic growth."
"The second achievement which I think is very important is that China and the United States announced the ratification of the Paris Agreement. Carbon dioxide emissions of G20 members take up to 75-to- 80-percent of the global total. If these countries commit to approve the Paris Agreement, we can enforce its goals as early as next year. "
