Saudi Arabia is a G20 member and an emerging economy like China. In an interview with CCTV, the nation's foreign minister Adel Al-Jubeir talked about China-Saudi Arabia relations. They also discussed expectations for the upcoming G20 summit in Hangzhou.
Saudi Arabia has high hopes for China's proposed Belt and Road initiative.
"China is committing to build up a new Silk Road called the 'One Belt One Road.' Saudi Arabia will vigorously participate, especially in west Asia and Middle East parts of new Silk Road," he said.
"Saudi Arabia is the largest market in regions like west Asia to China, north Africa and Middle East while China is the largest market for Saudi Arabia to export its oil products, which has brought about tremendous trade volume for this two nations."
China and Saudi Arabia have had 26 years of diplomatic relations.
The Saudi Foreign Minister says both nations follow a non-interference policy for each other's internal affairs.
"Saudi Arabia is a strategic partner of China. They share a same view over the world, take the principles of respecting sovereignty, good-neighborliness and friendliness and non-interference of each other's internal affairs as foundation, making two parties share a same version and common interests in economic trade and investment," he said.
"Apart from this, some close ties that people may not notice also exist in both parties. That is the similarity of Chinese civilization and Islamic civilization of Arab whose ties have lasted for a long time."
Al-Jubeir says China and Saudi Arabia will form a coordination committee to promote cooperation.
"The two parties have realized that they should strengthen these strong ties including cooperation in national security, military affairs,trade, investment, energy and culture," he said.
"The two countries are also willing to raise the cooperation in all these fields to a new level. That's why both parties need to establish a high-level mutual coordination committee."
When talking about the G20 summit, Al-Jubeir says China and Saudi Arabia should pay close attention to the affairs of developing nations.
"We hope that members in G20 can join the fairness in such aspects as market opening-up, climate change and competitiveness with G20," he said.
"We also hope that G20 can create opportunities for members to progress instead of hindering their development. China and Saudi Arabia have responsibilities to pay close attention to affairs of developing countries as they are one of them, with large economic volume and great influencing power."
