Renowned actor, director and drama educator Su Min has died at the age of 90 in Beijing. Su, formerly called Pu Si’xun, is also the father of actor Pu Cunxin.
Su died early Sunday morning at his Beijing home. Born in 1926, he started acting at Beijing People’s Art Theater in 1952, when it was first established. Su belongs to the first generation of China’s theater actors.

Throughout his acting career, Su played many impressive characters in dramas such as “Thunderstorm” and “Cai Wenji.” Su also made appearances on the silver screen. In 1996, he took the role of Emperor Daoguang at the age of 70 in the film “Opium War.” He also directed several dramatic productions, including “Li Bai.”
