Publications covering Chinese history and culture have proven to be most popular among international publishers at the 2016 Beijing International Book Fair.

Books such as "Keywords to Understand China", Liu Cixin's "Three Body Trilogy", the "Library of Chinese Classics" series and "A Hundred Years of Chinese Arts" will be published multilingually in countries such as the United Kingdom, Russia, India, Poland, Turkey and Czech Republic.

Hussein Ibrahim, a counselor of the Embassy of Egypt in Beijing, said he was delighted to see the Arabic version of "China-World Exchange on Historiography" being exported to Egypt.

"I think it is a brilliant book which features a rich content of the communications between Egypt and China over the last two millenniums. Culture is the soft power of a country. I think it's meaningful to boost the relationship between two countries with the cultural exchanges. And books like these are playing very important roles, especially during this time as China is implementing its 'Belt and Road' Initiative," said Hussein Ibrahim, Embassy of Egypt in Beijing.

Meanwhile, the UK's Cambridge University Press signed agreements with China's historical Commercial Press to deepen the exchange of literature in the fields of philosophy, law, history and politics.

"Scholars in the West are very keen to understand China and the huge changes that have happened in China over the last decades and also to be able to understand what of those ideas are relevant in the West. And I think similarly in China, people are keen to understand ideas from the West and the way in which those can work in a Chinese context," said Peter Phelps, CEO of Cambridge University Press.

The annual book fair, which was initiated in 1986, is the third largest book fair in the world, after the Frankfurt Book Fair and the London Book Fair. This year's edition brought together over 2,400 exhibitors from 86 countries and regions this year. 16 nations from Central and Eastern Europe are the countries of honor at this year's event.
