TV ratings in China peaked when China defeated Serbia to win the gold medal in women's volleyball last Saturday. The combined ratings of CCTV-5 and CCTV-1 hit a record 71 percent of the total viewership, dwarfing all other TV programs in China.

When it came to TV advertisement prices, the most expensive ads aired during the China-Serbia women's volleyball final. A 60-second advertisement shown during the game sold for 14.3 million  yuan while a 30-second spot cost 7.7 million yuan.

Chinese Olympic champions also joined online video streaming shows to chat and interact with their fans. Exuberant swimming star Fu Yuanhui,was no exception. More than 10 million viewers watched the 20-year-old's live streaming debut. Fu received more than 3 million virtual diamond gifts during her one hour on air. Fu's fans paid 0.1 yuan for each virtual diamond given to her and the total value of the gifts reached 310,000 yuan.
