Feng Shanshan, the 2012 LPGA Championship winner claimed China's first Olympic medal ever in the sport when she won bronze in Brazil. Feng has since returned to the PRC where she has vowed to help grow the sport in the world's most populous nation.
Feng said she hopes her third place finish can inspire and motivate others in China to take up the game. The world number 14 is also looking forward to competing for her country once again in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Feng has had a bit of a tough go on the LPGA so far in 2016 with her ranking dropping from the top five to her current spot and hopes her result in Rio, where she steadily climbed the leaderboard, is a sign of better things to come. At one point on the final day, Feng was only three shots behind the eventual gold medalist Inbee Park, before slipping back to finish six shots back to win the bronze that means so much to her and Chinese golf.
