For many students, summer vacation is almost over now, but the fun doesn't have to be! A cornecopia of theatre plays at the ongoing China Children's Theatre festival is one of the ways to keep them entertained.

The month-long China Children's Theatre festival has gathered some 46 drama works from eight countries and regions.

The festival has successfully held five editions since 2011. Organizers say what made this year's festival distinct from previous years is a special arrangement that enhances audience interaction.

This troupe from Taiwan brought with them a classic fairytale from their repertoire. They also held a workshop for both the children and their parents. And it's proved to be a huge hit.

"The children are having a lot of fun and that's what matters. The workshop helps them work on their confidence, and become more independent and articulate. That's good for them in the future," said Zhao Ziqiang, director.

Chinese animation film "New Happy Dad and Son 2: The Instant Genius" have hit the big screen for over a week now and has been doing well at the box office.

The original "Happy Dad and Son" animation film, about a Chinese family of three, were broadcast on China Central Television back in 1995.

It became an instant hit among children and adults alike and even won a Golden Eagle award, which recognizes achievements in television.

"The new story still resonates with us parents. After watching this film I'm gotten some inspiration about how to teach my children. We need to allow the kids to have their own space every now and then. Plus the kids are loving the movie," said a parent.

I'm a huge fan of the movie. It's thrilling and moving, and a little bit funny," said a kid.

With a fan base across different generations, the series was remade by CCTV in 2013 and the first film adaptation met audiences in 2014. Now parents can take their children to enjoy the sequel, and perhaps relive some of their own childhood memories as well.
