Sixty-one people have been injured and around 2,700 forced to evacuate after Typhoon Mindulle made landfall on Hokkaido, the northernmost island of Japan.

National broadcaster NHK says heavy rain has caused flooding in villages and damaged houses. A 58-year-old woman was also killed after the tropical storm hit earlier this week. More than 500 flights have been canceled nationwide because of the extreme weather conditions.

Japan’s weather service says the storm is on track to leave the country.
