Seventeen days of Olympic action are now in the books, and with that we can have a final look at the medal table. The U.S. finished top with 46 gold medals, and the Americans ended up with 121 overall.

Great Britain beat out China for second place because it had more golds, 27 to 26, China would have more total medals, 70-to-67, but the table is based on golds.

Russia, despite missing about a third of their squad managed a fourth place finish, 19 golds, and 56 overall. Germany rounded out the top five.

The host of the next Summer Games, Japan, finished sixth, thanks to their 12 golds and 41 medals overall. France was right behind them with 10 golds.

South Korea, who will host the next Games, the winter variety in two years time in Pyeongchang, managed to garner nine golds, and 21 overall medals.

Italy and Australia round out the top 10, as both countries were able to grab eight top place finishes.
