Full coverage: 2016 Rio Olympics
We begin with track and field -- and Usain Bolt. The man who said he wanted to be a "Legend" and "Immortal" would get his opportunity in Rio. The only man to win the 100, 200, and 4x100 metre titles at two Olympic Games, would try and do one better as he went for a triple-triple. The Jamaican, and fastest man on the planet had already won the two individual sprints in Brazil, and would look to steer his country to gold in the team event, and seal his place in history.
Asafa Powell gets the Jamaicans off to a decent start -- with Japan pushing the defending champions for the first 300-metres, but then when Bolt gets the baton he turns on the jets and powers his way home. Clinching a triple-triple of medals. Japan grab second in an Asian record 37.60. The US take bronze. China were fifth.
Americans finish in 41.01 seconds to repeat as Olympic champs
In the women's 4x100 metre relay, the U-S, the last team to qualify after an appeal, that led to a re-run, made the most of their opportunity, coming in first in 41.01 seconds to repeat as champions. Jamaica would take the silver, while Great Britain take third.
