On Day 12 at the Rio Games, China have added a men's team gold medal to sweep titles in table tennis for the third straight time. The defending Chinese men's team claimed a 3-1 victory in the final over Japan. It was the 28th gold medal won by China since the sport was introduced at the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games.

On the mat, China's Zhao Shuai defeated Tawin Hanprab of Thailand in the 58-kilogram taekwondo final. Zhao is the first Chinese athlete to win the title.

China has won their first wrestling medal at the Olympics. 2013 world champion Sun Yanan walked away with a bronze in the women's freestyle 48kg after defeating Zhuldyz Eshimova of Kazakhstan. The gold went to Japan's Eri Tosaka.
