Myanmar’s State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi will arrive in Beijing Wednesday for an official visit at the invitation of China’s Premier Li Keqiang. The three-day trip makes her the first leader from Myanmar to visit China since the new government was formed in late March.

China is Myanmar’s top trading partner, and a key source of investment. Chinese firms have been actively involved in the country’s industrial upgrading and infrastructure sector.

To boost regional economic development, China has launched multiple cooperative programmes in the region. Those included are the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area and the Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar Economic Corridor.
