Interview with Cao Shuo, ranking 4th in triple jump
Cao said, "4th place was a big surprise for me, my goal was to enter the final 8. So fourth is quite an exciting result for me. But there is still regret because I was not able to achieve my personal best."

"Yes, when he pulled off that 17.58-metre jump, that was a huge boost to my confidence, and I got all excited; hoping I could catch up to him. So it certainly helped me. All these years, we are pushing each other further and further, and gradually we are getting better, together, and now reaching a world-class level."

Chinese jumper happy with his progress since taking up sport
"That jump back then was a lucky shot, but now I have confidence in the future. I did not really understand what triple jump was at that time. It was lucky, but after all these years I learned more about the triple jump. At the last Olympics I did not make the final 8. That was four years ago. I am more relaxed now, I feel I'm more mature both technically and mentally. I believe I will make it onto the podium in the future."
"Standing on that Olympic podium is every athlete's dream. I wish I can improve my effort and perform at my best in Tokyo, at the next Games. Hopefully I can grab that medal next time."
