More than 800 residents, tourists, and foreign guests gathered in Pyongyang on Friday for the DPRK's first ever beer festival. The opening ceremony began at Taedong River pier, one of the capital's most famous landmarks, with performances and free beer.

The 20 day event features just one brand - Taedonggang Beer - made at a brewery that was bought from England over a decade ago. Taedonggang Beer is widely considered to be the best beer in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
