Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida has met with Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte and foreign minister Perfecto Yasay in the southern Philippine city of Davao.

Both sides have agreed to further strengthen their cooperation in broader areas. Kishida also said he plans to discuss maritime security with Manila. His trip to the Philippines is his first official visit, following his reappointment as Japanese Foreign Minister. The two countries are celebrating their 60th anniversary of the normalisation of diplomatic relations.
