Ecuador says it will allow Sweden to interview Wikileaks founder Julian Assange at their embassy in London. The interview will mainly center around the 2010 rape allegations made against Assange.
According to the statement, Ecuador will also set up a meeting in the coming weeks with Sweden, to talk about further details. The 45-year-old Australian sought refuge in the embassy in London in June 2012 after exhausting all his legal options in Britain, against extradition to Sweden.
Assange fears that if he were sent to Sweden to face trial, he could be extradited to the United States to face a long term prison sentence or even the death penalty.
