It's not just China's athletes who are making a name for themselves in Rio, the "Made in China" brand is also putting itself out there. The mats which are being used in the Judo events are made by a company from East China's Shandong province and are the official standard for the Olympics.

Bian Zhiliang's first stop in Rio when he arrived was the Judo training center. He had only one intention -- to test its mats. Bian, their producer, was keen to see that they would contribute to faster and more agile movements, but ultimately they would protect the competitors from dangerous or heavy falls.

"Our mats have been used in four Olympics Games and five Asian Games. Once we are internationally recognized, we are in a place to set the standard for all mats, that is, a world-class standard," Bian said.
 
Olympic mats must be safe and environmentally-friendly. And Bian's company has spent more than 100 million yuan developing them further for the Rio Games.

There are Judo fighters from more than 100 countries and regions at the Games. Bian says, to comply with Olympic standards, they would all practice on his mats in their home countries. He added, for the seven million Judo lovers in Brazil, his mats are a great choice to fall back on.
