Senior government officials say China's scientific innovations have led to significant advances in such areas as quantum communications, neutrino oscillation and high-temperature superconductors.
The officials also say technological innovations have provided support for industrial improvements, with scientific and technological elements playing key roles in economic growth.
"China's innovation index ranks the 18th in the world, and it's the only country that has achieved continuing ascent for years," said Li Meng, Vice Minister, Ministry of Science and Technology.
"Compared to global advanced level, we have areas in the leading class, and also some catching up. China has become an influential country in science and technology."
