The head of the Thailand's military government has said the planned general election in 2017 will push through, no matter the outcome of this Sunday's national referendum.

Two years have passed since the military took over power, and Thais will now vote on whether or not to accept a military-backed constitution. Senior officials say the referendum is aimed at ensuring the country's economic and political development under a new constitution.
