Full coverage: THAAD Deployment in South Korea
South Korean President Park Geun-hye has said a new site could be considered within the Seongju county for the deployment of the THAAD anti-missile system. Residents have expressed their anger, with some of them calling the THAAD system "useless" or an "inadequate measure" to defend South Korea. Anti-THAAD campaigns have been going on across Seongju since the government announced the county as the site for the system's deployment.
"We have been learning about the THAAD system everyday. Even the housewives are talking about it. We know the THAAD system better than anyone in other places. The THAAD system is useless in defending South Korea. I’m a mother of two. When I think about my children, I will do my best to fight and boycott the THAAD system. There are also parents and children in other places. The anti-missile system will not only be boycotted in Seongju, but also in other parts of South Korea. This kind of weapon will trigger war and make us live in the fear of it."
