Full coverage: THAAD Deployment in South Korea
A South Korean lawmaker on foreign affairs and former foreign minister has warned that allowing THAAD into the country is an extremely destabilising move.
Song Min-soon, who was also chief negotiator in DPRK nuclear talks, said in the Korean JoongAng Daily newspaper that the missile defense system is likely to trigger an arms race among major powers in northeastern Asia.
He said it is dangerous for South Korea to resort to military threats instead of diplomatic means. Song warned THAAD’s presence in the Korean Peninsula will cause irreversible harm to regional security.
