To the latest in our series of reports looking at the impact of Brexit now...For hundreds of thousands of British citizens working across the European Union, the decision to withdraw from the bloc has created uncertainty and concern. CCTV's Dan Williams went to Costa Blanca in Spain to look at how the ex-pat community there is preparing for life beyond Brexit.

Benidorm in Spain’s Costa Blanca. Sunshine. tourists and home to thousands of British ex-pats. But that could all change after the Brexit vote. At the local bowling club, the referendum’s result has left many here anxious.

"Obviously, we are all worried about it. We have just got our pensions. The first one since the Brexit and it is around 70 euros less than what it was before," British expat Norman Vickers said.

"Their major concern is the healthcare. I was costing the Valencia health service here one-hundred and ten thousand a year in drugs alone. So I couldn’t afford that," British expat Leonard Pilling said.

Their concerns are shared by business owners in the area.

"Most people come here to live for the moment and they don’t really think about the future. I am always healthy but you can never say never. I might have to go back," British expat Wilma Wallace said.

More than 280,000 UK citizens live in Spain. In some Costa Blanca communities, British expats outnumber the Spaniards. So Brexit has been the big story for the local English newspaper — Costa Blanca News.

"It has dominated the headlines. The first week it came out, we had ten pages dedicated exclusively to that. Bit by bit it is quieting down. The regional tourism office for example has made a call and will be publicizing stay here, stay at home. You are at home now why would you want to leave?" James Parkes, editor with Costa Blanca News, said.

Although some of the initial panic over Brexit has subsided, the uncertainty for many British expats remains. And at the back of many people’s minds is the possibility that for one reason or another, they’ll be forced to give up on the Spanish dream.

At a local old age home, the shock wave of Brexit are sill being felt.

".... back to the UK will be a better solution than staying here. You know i'll make it extremely reluctantly because I love this country and I really wouldn’t like to go back to England," British expat Kevin Halliday said.

For decades, thousands of Brits this stretch of Spanish coastline is home. The question is for how much longer?
