Just days after torrential rain and floods devastated cities and towns in China's most populated regions, provinces across the nation are now suffering through a severe heat wave.
The National Meteorological Center has issued another orange weather alert for high temperatures across most parts of the country. Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region has topped the high temperature warning list, with temperatures there reaching over 40 degrees Celsius.
Further east, Shanghai has issued its third red weather alert -- with temperatures inside city cars reaching a staggering 64 degrees Celsius. A sudden hailstorm cooled the coastal city for a couple of hours on Thursday. Some Shanghai residents even walked out into the hail to enjoy some cooler air.
The National Meteorological Center says higher temperatures for China's northern provinces are expected in the coming weeks.
