The doping scandal continues to get worse -- as eleven weightlifters, including six medallists from London 2012 failed retests. Among them are three Russians, Nataliya Zabolotnaya, Alexandr Ivanov, and Svetlana Tzarukaeva all won silver medals four years ago. The three are provisionally suspended until their B samples are tested.

Before these tests came to light, more than 100 Russians had already been banned from going to Rio because of their country's alleged doping ring, with about two-thirds of those being track and field athletes.

So 67 Russian track and field athletes will be watching the Olympics at home while 22 rowers are being excluded. Earlier this week, eight athletes participating in canoeing, modern pentathlon and sailing were banned, along with seven swimmers including London 2012 bronze medallist Yulia Efimova. The head of the Russian Wrestling Federation announced that two-time world champion Viktor Lebedev was ineligible because he was given a doping ban in 2006.

In all, 105 Russian athletes will not be able to participate in Rio, but that number could change with a week to go until the cauldron is lit.
