The Syrian army says it has cut off all supply routes into the now rebel-held eastern Aleppo. The latest government assault in fight for the Syria's largest city before the war comes as the United Nations says it hopes to restart peace talks in August.

Syrian state TV broadcast images showing the army bombing the last remaining key supply route on Tuesday. The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the eastern parts of Aleppo had been under siege since July the 11th.

Taking full control of Aleppo would be a significant victory for Syrian President Bashar Assad.
