President Xi Jinping has visited the People’s Liberation Army to extend his appreciation to troops ahead of the national Army Day celebration on August 1.

Xi said the PLA should be managed in accordance with the law and should utilize information technology to build an armed forces commensurate with China's international status.

The visit comes a day after Xi, also the chairman of the Military Commission, called for the establishment of a stronger army through military reform. During his visit, officers delivered a work report to the president on progress made in military reform and the latest deployment of PLA ground forces across the country.
