Chinese authorities have issued an orange alert for dangerously high temperatures in southern China.
The National Meteorological Center says temperatures of up to 40 Celsius are being recorded in Zhejiang, Anhui, and Hunan provinces among others.
Meanwhile, in Chongqing, officials have warned of heat-stroke and wild fires as temperatures hit 42 Celsius in places. In Yancheng City of Jiangsu province, a van caught fire and burned out.
China’s largest city, Shanghai, has also been given an alert for high temperatures.
