An Afghan scientist is seeking funds for a minesweeper drone that he says could clear mines all over the world within ten years.
Massoud Hassani's drone works in three steps. The first step is to create a 3D map of a minefield using cameras on the drone. The drone then detects the location of mines and highlights them on the 3D map. Next, the drone will place explosives on the highlighted location using its mechanical arms. Lastly, it will detonate it using remote control.
Hassani says this method would be safer and twenty times faster than current methods at a fraction of the cost.
