At the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Vientiane, Wang Yi met his Singaporean counterpart Vivian Balakrishnan. Wang said China-ASEAN relations have been developing well, but continue to face challenges. He said Singapore -- the coordinating nation of China-ASEAN relations -- bears responsibility for fostering deeper cooperation between the two parties.

"The most important consensus I reached with Mr Balakrishnan is that, at the 25th anniversary of the dialogue relationship between the two sides, we need to work together to remove interferences," Wang said.

"We need to deepen mutual political trust, expand pragmatic cooperation, safeguard regional peace and stability and establish a community of common destiny."

For his part, the Singaporean Foreign Minister said he supported the idea of negotiations between China and the Philippines.
