During this leg, the racers would make the 700 kilometer journey from Alashan to Wuhai with the drivers now one stop away from the event's finish in Beijing. Stephane Peterhansel would need to make a strong push to try and usurp leader and teammate Cyril Despres to try and take over top spot.
Now this section of the race, as kindly demonstrated by this graphic made by a child, is mostly desert and over more than 700 kilometers and is one of the most isolated routes of the event.

Stephane Peterhansel from Team Peugeot is able to take first place with a time of 4 hours 50 minutes and 5 seconds. It is the fifth stage the German has won this year. The overall leader is his teammate Cyril Despres and Peterhansel's finish enables him to keep his place at the top.
Despres himself finishes third and his extends his lead at the top in the overall standings with one stage to go.
Chinese racer Han Wei currently sits sixth having performed admirably during this section where he came in 8th. The final stop goes from Wuhai to Hohot before the ending ceremony here in Beijing.
Meanwhile, in the truck division -- Edouard Nikolaev tops today's section and remains in front in the overall rankings. The Kamaz driver will likely be crowned champion when the drivers finish up the race Sunday. In fact the top-six places in the standings belong to the Kamaz team.
