It's the one-year anniversary of the founding of the New Development Bank by the BRICS nations. On the occasion, Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli addressed the annual meeting of the bank's board of directors at its headquarters in Shanghai.
He urged them to provide strong support for infrastructure improvement in developing countries. He added that the BRICS nations and the world's developing countries will have a greater say in global economic governance.
The bank has just this week issued its first bonds worldwide to raise funds for clean energy projects in member states. The five-year "green bonds" are denominated in the Chinese currency renminbi, and are worth three billion yuan.
