China's logistics industry maintained moderate growth in the first half of 2016 amid ongoing structural reforms. That's according to the China Federation of Logistics & Purchasing.

The federation said Tuesday that from January through June, the logistics industry grew 6.2 percent. That's compared with 5.7 percent growth recorded in the first half of 2015.

Logistics demand for coal and mining products dropped 10 percent but demand for consumer goods transportation surged 46 percent year on year. That was boosted by China's effort to increase consumption and supply side reforms.

"The structural reforms within the logistics industry will be going on in the latter half of this year, perhaps with a faster speed. So we can expect that logistics demand for heavy industries will continue  declining while consumer goods transportation will grow even faster," said Cai Jin, vice president, China Federation of Logistics & Purchasing.
