MUNICH, July 18 (Xinhua) -- Four passengers were wounded in an attack launched by a man with axe on a regional train near Wuerzburg in the southern German state of Bavaria on Monday night, local police have confirmed.

Among the four passengers, three were in critical condition while one suffered from minor injuries, German media Focus Online has reported, quoting police sources.

According to local media reports, the man who wounded the passengers was shot dead by police.

So far, the motive of the attack remains unclear.
