Turkish authorities have put the death toll from a failed military coup at at least 290 people. The foreign ministry says this includes about 100 coup plotters, while the rest were civilians. Turkey has made more than 6,000 arrests since, with top commanders and even a senior judge among them.
The government has blamed exiled Islamic cleric Fethullah Gulen for staging the attempt to seize power, which swept the country on Friday night but was contained by Saturday morning.
There are reports of more clashes on Sunday between police and the gendarmerie at Istanbul's Sabiha Gokcen Airport, which ended with the gendarmerie commander being detained. Also on Sunday, police reportedly wrestled back control of an air base in the south of the country held by supporters of the coup.
