Turkish security forces have carried out new raids against suspected plotters of the failed coup against President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, as international concern grew over the scale of the crackdown.

Authorities say over 6,000 have been detained, and around eight thousand police officers have been removed. Erdogan calls on his supporters to continue protesting the coup attempt in the streets and public squares until Friday, saying the threat against him was not completely eliminated. He also says there should be no delay in using capital punishment on coup plotters.

"My brothers, I believe that the government will talk about this issue with opposition parties and a decision will definitely be taken. We cannot delay this decision very long. Because those who stage a coup against the state should pay the price," Erdogan said.
