The UN cultural agency UNESCO's World Heritage Committee has wrapped up its annual session in Istanbul. The committee added 21 new sites out of 27 nominations to world heritage list. 12 of the new additions are cultural sites, six are natural sites and three are a combination of the two.
The heritage list has now 1,052 sites in 165 countries. The session was cut short by four days due to the coup attempt in Turkey on Friday night. The next session is slated for July next year in Cracow, Poland.
