A three-day mourning period starting Saturday is underway for the victims of the Nice attack.
In Paris, locals and tourists gathered outside the Notre Dame de Paris to pay their respects. Flowers and candles were also offered at a makeshift memorial on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice.
Security has been strengthened, with police deployed at major mourning sites across the country.
Hours after the Nice attack, French President Francois Hollande announced an extension of France’s state of emergency by three months. Authorities have also pledged to maintain some 10,000 security forces across the country.
