A Chinese soybean oil smuggler has finally been escorted back to China from Peru early Sunday morning.
The fugitive, surnamed Huang, was suspected of evading taxes amounting to some 700 million yuan for illegally selling tariff-free soybean oil from 1996 to 1998.
After previous investigations by police, Huang and two other suspects fled to the United States and then Peru, remaining at large for 18 years.
Under constant negotiation with Peruvian authorities, China finally managed to have Huang arrested and processed. Also noteworthy to add is that this is the first time China has extradited a wanted criminal from a Latin American country.
