Full coverage: Bastille Day Attack In Nice, France
The fifth World Peace Forum is drawing to a close in Beijing. CCTV's reporter explains more about the forum, and how it responded to recent events in Turkey and France.
After the attack during Bastille Day in the French city of Nice and the failed military coup in Turkey, people are calling for world peace more than ever before.
These two events have been the hottest topics on the second day of the World Peace Forum in Beijing.
"The antonym of the word 'Peace' is 'war'. Actually today we face fewer wars or military conflicts than before and fewer people died in war than before. But terrorism is affecting our security and making people feel unsafe. That's what we mainly talk about in the forum, international security. We are gathering here to discuss and share ideas and views of what governments can do to provide protection and security to their people amid rising threats," said Yan Xuetong, Dean of International Relations Institute, Tsinghua University.
As regional security issues have increased in 2016, the international security cooperation forum attracted more scholars to join and share their views.
The two-day forum has also touched on matters like the South China Sea issue, non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, the "Belt and Road " initiative, relationships between world powers, and anti-terrorism efforts.
