We switch to the China-Europe Basketball Championship now where with not long to go until the Rio Olympics, China's men faced off against Montenegro in Kunshan, Jiangsu Province on Friday. After a disappointing time in the Stankovic cup last month, which saw them finish in last place, the Chinese side were in need of a moral boosting tournament before flying off to Brazil to compete in the global showcase.

Homeside captain Zhou Peng makes his return for the game following a spell on the sidelines with a leg injury.

And in the first quarter they make a bright start with Wang Zhelin and Yi Jianlian sharing the spoils to put China up 11 to 3.

But some slack defending lets the European nation back into the contest and they trail by just 3 at going into the second period, 15-12.

Neither side builds momentum after the re-start with China missing all their 3 point shooting opportunities with just a 30 percent accuracy overall.

Zou Yuchen eventually lands this lay up for the hosts deep into the quarter. China enter the break with a slim 24 to 23 advantage.

A disappointing and low scoring game so far, with little quality on show and more effort needed.

In the 3rd the Chinese come out with a bit more desire thanks to Zhao Jiwei's early lay-up which is followed by Wang Zhelin's dunk.

And they are able to find the basket from outside the D thanks to Zhou Qi who grabs an unflattering 13 points and 11 rebounds to help his team lead 47 to 42 going into the final quarter.

Long serving Yi Jianlian steps up in the 4th with some nice defense and then offence to finish with a game high 15 points and give China a low scoring 65 to 52 win over Montenegro.

"Actually this game revealed some of our problems, we lost 14 second balls in the game against a defensive side, we need work harder on that next. In the last periods we made a series of mistakes that cost us. On the good side, our forwards worked much better today, not just in their play alone but also in helping their team-mates create more chances. We hope we can keep this style of play in the up coming games," said Gong Luming, China coash.
