One of China's strongest events at the Summer Olympics has long been table tennis and the men's and women's teams are busy warming up with matches in Weihai, Shandong province.
The teams' top players took on sides made up of their second string teammates, and while the men's first team won as expected, the women did not.
On Thursday the team will be travel to Brazil to get settled ahead of the Games that begin on August 5th.
First up for the main team is Zhang Jike and Xu Xin taking on Fang Bo and Cui Qinglei in doubles. The match would be one sided in favour of Zhang and Xu, but still offered plenty of great moments with this fantastic rally standing out. Zhang and Xu would win the match 3-0 to put the top team ahead.
Xu would then return to the table for a singles encounter with Lin Gaoyuan. At the beginning of the 2016 world championships trials, Lin forced Xu into a desperate situation but ended up losing a close 5-4 decision. Six months later the two meet again in another close battle as Lin took a 2-1 lead after three sets, but Xu was able to fight back and finally prevailed 3-2.
Then Zhang and Ma Long played two separate singles matches with both claiming 4-1 victories. Zhang's tussle with Yan An was particularly entertaining, but the result was never really in doubt as the reigning Olympic champion in singles Zhang was able to come out on top sealing a 4 sets to 0 win for the first string team.
