Pakistan has also voiced support for China's stance over the South China Sea issue. Pakistani Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nafees Zakaria says disputes should be resolved through consultations and negotiations by countries directly concerned.
He said, "Pakistan opposes any unilateral imposition of decisions on others. We respect China's statement of optional exception in the light of the Article 298 of the UNCLOS."
Zakaria said in an interview with CCTV that Pakistan believes maintaining peace and security is the collective responsibility of all parties in the South China Sea.
He also said nations outside the region should fully respect the efforts made by China and ASEAN members. They should also play a constructive role in safeguarding peace and stability in the region.
