Leading Hong Kong newspapers expressed their dissatisfaction with the arbitration Wednesday.
Ta Kung Pao said the arbitration was a violation of China's sovereignty. The paper says the arbitration denies previous agreements between China and the Philippines to solve disputes by negotiation. It says the court accepting an arbitration unilaterally initiated by Philippines is a complete violation of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
Ming Pao said that historic facts support China's claims of sovereignty in South China Sea.
Wen Wei Po published an editorial, saying that the result of the arbitration revealed a strategy to contain China. The article said the decision also destabilizes the South China Sea region.
