The spokesman of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, Ma Xiaoguang, has called for joint efforts from Taiwan and the Mainland to safeguard the territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests in the South China Sea.
The island's leader's office earlier declared The Hague tribunal award "is not legally binding" and it "absolutely will not accept" the decision. On Tuesday, Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang said the award is invalid, without any binding force on China.
He said it's the shared responsibility and obligation of people from both sides of the Taiwan Strait to safeguard the sovereignty and security interests of the nation.
