Aries Merrit, the world record holder and Olympic gold medalist in the 110-meter hurdles, will unfortunately not be going to Rio.

The American sprinter finished fourth at the U.S trials. The 30-year-old needed to be in the top three to qualify, but clocked in at 13.22 seconds, a hundredth of a second behind third place.

According to Merritt, a torn groin five weeks ago slowed his progress this season. Before that, the American suffered from a rare kidney disease, but he has refused to give up racing, even after a kidney transplant in September.

Due to his health issues, last week's US trials, were just his fourth competitive meet this year. Before that event, CCTV's Mike Fox sat down with the American, to discuss what he has overcome to just get back to racing.
