Wales were given a heroes welcome upon their return home. The Red Dragons were playing in their first major tournament since 1958, and were able to make it all the way to the semi-finals before being bounced by Portugal. But their performance has filled the country with pride.
Fans greet Welsh team upon return home
The squad was paraded through the streets of Cardiff on an open top bus, before they eventually made their way into the city's main soccer stadium. Inside thousands cheered and yelled for their idols. Chris Coleman's squad were considered rank outsiders before the tournament, but thanks to the play of Gareth Bale and the rest of the lads, were able to inspire a nation, and fans and players only have good memories of their run in France.
"It was all about us. We know, myself and my staff, we know how good our team can play. We know how good the players are and if we get it right we can beat anybody, so that's how we looked at it," said Wales Manager Chris Coleman.
"We fought hard to qualify and all through the games we kept progressing, we kept getting better as a team and we knew what we were capable of. Going to France, as we said, we didn't want to make up the numbers. We went there, gave it a real go and got ahead of the English," said Wales Forward Gareth Bale.
