Syrian government forces have taken a step further towards completely encircling the rebel-held parts of Aleppo. On Thursday, the army cut off Castello Road, the only way into the opposition half of the city.
This advance brought the army within firing range. But rebels said they were fighting to re-secure the road. Before the civil war, Aleppo was Syria's largest city with a population of over two million people. It has now been broken up into rebel and government-held sectors.
