Chinese Ministry of National Defense has denied accusations by Japanese officials that China illegally sent jets to the Diaoyu Islands. The ministry said it was Japan instead who was making provocations.

The comments referred to last month when two Chinese fighter jets were patrolling in the East China Sea Air Defense Identification Zone. Japan sent two of its jets to approach the Chinese planes and locked onto them with fire-control radar. China urged Japan to cease provocations.
