At least 126 people, including 25 children, have been killed in terrorist attacks in a busy shopping district in Baghdad. Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the deadliest terrorist attack in Iraq. 

>> Saudi Arabia police officer injured in US consulate attack

Two police officers were reportedly injured and the attacker killed, after a suspected suicide bomber detonated a device near the US consulate in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The attacker was reportedly shot by security forces, and the area was cordoned off.

The bodies of the victims from the Dhaka terrorist attack have started to be returned to their families. At a memorial service Monday, Bangladesh's Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, paid her respects to family members. The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack, but Bangladesh’s government has dismissed the claim, saying homegrown militants were to blame.

Australians are still waiting to find out who will lead the country, after Saturday’s federal election proved too close to call. That hasn't stopped Liberal Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, and Labor leader Bill Shorten from claiming victory.

Installation was completed on the world's largest radio telescope on Sunday morning as the last of 4,450 panels was fitted into the center of the big dish. The project has the potential to search for more strange objects to better understand the origin of the universe and boost the global hunt for extraterrestrial life.

Torrential rains in southern China have put a strain on the country's flood defences. Water levels on some of the country's major rivers continue to rise and the meterological office has just issued a warning of a typhoon heading towards China's eastern coast.
